Ingredient

  • 1 oz Patrón Añejo tequila
  • 1⁄2 oz Del Maguey Vida Clásico Mezcal
  • 1⁄2 oz Cointreau triple sec liqueur
  • 1⁄6 oz Italian red bitter liqueur
  • 2⁄3 oz Blood orange juice
  • 1⁄2 oz Lime juice
  • 1⁄6 oz Sugar syrup 'rich'

Glass:

Serve in an Old-fashioned glass

Prepare:

  1. Select and pre-chill an OLD-FASHIONED GLASS.
  2. Prepare garnish of dehydrated blood orange slice wheel.

How to make:

  1. SHAKE all ingredients with ice.
  2. STRAIN into ice-filled glass.

Garnish:

  1. Garnish with blood orange slice.

Review:

With its rich red colour, complex agave notes, and bittersweet zesty citrus, this is an "Improved" Blood Orange Margarita due to its use of añejo tequila and the addition of mezcal. My only reservation is the use of sugar syrup instead of agave syrup.

History:

A Discerning Drinkers' crowd-led riff (particularly Chris Brislawn, Calvin Grant, Avery Garnett) on Ben Davidson's excellent Blood Orange Margarita.
