History:

The "Club" cocktail first appears in W.C. Whitfield's 1939 book Just Cocktails as the third of three cocktails with the same name, two on page 27, with the second distinguished by "New England Style" appearing after the name in brackets; and this third version on page 48 in the "Cocktails of the 'Gay Nineties'" section. (Interestingly, there is not one Club cocktail in his 1941 book Here's How Mixed Drinks by the same Three Mountaineers Inc. publishers.)

Review:

Fortified with brandy and aromatised with maraschino liqueur and bitters, pineapple juice adds fruity, tropical notes, while sparkling wine adds freshness and contributes to this cocktail's foamy head.
