Ingredients

  • 2⁄3 oz Plantation Original Dark rum
  • 1⁄2 oz Fernet Branca liqueur
  • 1⁄2 oz Demerara/Muscovado/brown sugar syrup
  • 2⁄3 oz Lemon juice
  • 1⁄2 oz Pelinkovac liqueur

Method

Glass:

Serve in an Old-fashioned glass

How to make:

SHAKE all ingredients with ice and train into an old-fashioned glass filled with ice cubes/a single big ice cube.

Review:

I used a homemade syrup made out of one part water and one part whole cane sugar. The syrup is very dark, a little bitter and molasses-like. I assume a mix of molasses and cane sugar syrup might achieve a similar taste-result.

History:

I created the drink for a book discussion of the book 'Yellowface' written by Rebecca F. Kuang. The name 'Mother Witch' refers to a book a character in 'Yellowface' writes.
The drink should represent herbal, wood-like, and earthy flavors I associated with, e.g., a witch living in a hutt in a forest. Further, all ingredients are dark-brown colored, adding to the forest imagery.

Nutrition:

One serving of Mother Witch contains 147 calories

Garnish:

If you feel like it, you might add a little sprig of mint, as this complements the flavors of Fernet Branca.
